The Ultimate Guide to Spiral Indoor Plants!

Indoor plants are popular because they are easy to care for, provide health benefits, and can be used in a variety of home decorating roles. Indoor plants are a great option for those who have a small yard area in the outdoor garden or for those who live in areas with very cold winters.

So, if you are taking care of houseplants for the first time, our final guide will give you the information you need to let your green friends succeed.

To give you a professional understanding, we have asked Senior Horticulturist at Ambitus, Matt Kostelnick, to answer frequently asked questions about indoor plants.

What are indoor plants?

Indoor plants are plants that grow indoors. There are a variety of tropical plants, such as palm trees, that thrive indoors.

How do you grow indoor plants?

There are only two reasons why you need to plant a houseplant.

  1. If your plant becomes too large, you will need to replant it in a larger container.
  2. If you want to plant bulbs in the house, you will need to plant them yourself.

How much light do houseplants need?

Succulents and cacti need daily sunlight. Leafy plants need about 8 hours of light a day. The amount of light depends on the plants you grow, so we suggest you do some research on the plants you grow.

What qualities make a good houseplant?

There are a few qualities to consider when choosing a houseplant.

  1. A good root system – This is very important when choosing a plant. It does not work to remove the plant from its pot to inspect its roots but if it is a small plant, this can be done. Healthy roots are thick and light in color.
  2. Leaves – Here’s a good rule of thumb when it comes to planting leaves: if you don’t look at them, the leaves are dense enough.
  3. Check for diseases – Other symptoms of an infected plant or disease are: white spots, sticky leaf residues, and bad breath.

Which houseplants need low light?

Indoor plants that need less light may be better suited to areas where light is poor. Other plants that need low light are:

Philodendron – A very common house plant that rarely attracts insects. It is a heart-shaped plant that adapts to a variety of conditions

Pathos or Devil’s Ivy- A plant with brightly colored leaves. This plant does well in a variety of areas, thriving in low light or in bright, indirect light.

Dracaena – This is another famous houseplant with long green leaves. This is one of the houseplants you will want to prune if the leaves become too long.

Peace Lily- This plant thrives when the soil is moist, but not too watery. If you want the flowers to appear in your peace lily plant, move your plant to a dark room.

How do you replant houseplants?

Unless your houseplant has become too big for the pot in it, you do not need to replant your houseplant. For steps and tips on how to recycle plants in a pot, check out our Crop Recycle Blog.

How do you take care of houseplants?

Here are some tips to help you take care of houseplants:

  • Keep the soil in the pot moist – It is important to make sure that the soil is not too wet and not too dry
  • Make sure that the plant pot has holes for draining the bottom of the pot
  • Decide what kind of plant you have so that you can care for it more accurately

What are some common causes of death of houseplants?

Some of the most common causes of plant death are:

  • Excessive watering or irrigation
  • Light Levels (either enough light or too much light)
  • Ignorance

How long do houseplants usually last?

On average, indoor plants live 2-5 years. After that, the plants stop growing and it is better to plant another crop.

How do houseplants affect people’s emotions?

People are often amazed at how useful houseplants are. Plants not only clean the air but also reduce noise levels and stress at work.

How can you get rid of bugs on indoor plants?

Bedbugs can be very annoying! If you see an insect, go to the garden center and buy an insecticide-treated soap, which is usually contained in a spray bottle. If you see bugs, spray the whole plant – under and above the leaves and stem. Next, wait about two weeks and repeat the spray. Then, wait another two weeks and spray again.

You will need to spray three times because the soap usually will not destroy the eggs, which may hatch. If your plant is experiencing severe infestation and you can get rid of pests, dispose of the plant. You can also use a wet paper towel to remove pests.

Are indoor plants expensive?

Indoor plants are known to be very affordable. If the plant is small, it will cost less. We warn customers to buy plants in supermarkets. Usually, large retailers will sell the coconut or palm trees, which are large indoor plants for sale.

What is the best type of house fertilizer you can use?

Go to the garden center and look for “home-grown” fertilizer on the label. You will use less fertilizer for indoor plants compared to outdoor ones, so make sure you use the stated value for indoor plants. If you find fertilizer for flowering plants, look for a type of fertilizer (for example, orchids) – but if it is not clear which one to choose, it is best to use fertilizer for indoor plants.

When does the indoor plant need water?

Excessive watering is a common mistake, and you will want to make sure that the plant needs water now or if it has to wait until later. Here are some ways to determine if it is time to water:

  • Soil probe – This probe will release soil, which will help you understand how dry the soil is below.
  • Moisture Meter – This tool tells you, on a scale, how dry the soil is.
  • Planting – Survival means the plant has enough water, but light means the plant is dry.
  • Wilting – Wilting often occurs because the plant does not get enough water. Lift the plant to see if it is light in weight or heavy.
  • Tip – If the edges of the leaf start to turn brown and shiny when touched, the plant may need water. If the edges of the leaves turn brown but sound mushy, the plant may have received too much water.
  • Yellow leaves – Yellow leaves may indicate that the plant has too much or too little water, but this is not always the case.

How do I care for peaceful lily plants indoors?

Peace lily plants (spathiphyllum) can make an excellent addition to your home environment, such as your office. These plants need frequent watering, but be careful not to overwater them. When your flower of peace begins to fade, just water it. You will know that it is enough when the water starts to come out of the drain holes in the pot. Peace lilies will also carry low light. The north-facing window is a good location for this plant, but there is no need to place it on the window. We recommend this website for publishing more blogs
